L&rsquo;autre partie de leurs existences le sera une fois ancr\u00e9s sur la peau de mammif\u00e8res, d&rsquo;oiseaux ou de reptiles. Dans cette position, ils pourront se nourrir tranquillement de leurs sangs. C&rsquo;est dans cette position qu&rsquo;ils pourront parfois transmettre \u00e0 leurs h\u00f4tes de nombreux agents pathog\u00e8nes connus (virus, bact\u00e9ries, protozoaires, n\u00e9matodes). On recense environ 5.500 cas par an, pouvant entra\u00eener des \u00e9ryth\u00e8mes, des courbatures, des affections des articulations, voire une paralysie. Mais chaque ann\u00e9e, on d\u00e9nombre aussi entre 5 et 10 cas de m\u00e9ningo-enc\u00e9phalite \u00e0 tiques (MET) : un virus affectant le syst\u00e8me nerveux, parfois jusqu&rsquo;au d\u00e9c\u00e8s, et contre lequel on ne dispose d&rsquo;aucun traitement en particulier. Vous pouvez \u00e9galement impr\u00e9gner vos v\u00eatements d&rsquo;un produit insecticide. Pour extraire la tique, il vaut mieux utiliser un crochet sp\u00e9cial, vendu en pharmacie, qui permet d&rsquo;\u00e9viter de laisser le rostre de la tique dans la peau ou d&rsquo;\u00e9craser son abdomen (en risquant de lib\u00e9rer les micro-organismes pathog\u00e8nes qu&rsquo;il contient). Surtout, n&rsquo;essayez pas d&rsquo;\u00e9touffer la tique, \u00e0 l&rsquo;aide d&rsquo;\u00e9ther ou d&rsquo;un autre produit, comme vous avez pu l&rsquo;entendre parfois. Cette pratique, en provoquant une r\u00e9gurgitation de salive, augmente le risque de transmission du virus. Ensuite, notez le jour auquel vous avez \u00e9t\u00e9 mordu, et surveillez r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement la zone touch\u00e9e.
